Yellow Ribbon Program

As a part of the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), the Yellow Ribbon program is specifically designed for eligible veterans/dependents wishing to attend private institutions. Only veterans/dependents who are certified at 100% eligibility are able to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program. For the 2012-13 academic year, Stevenson will take an unlimited number of students who qualify for this program. Please note that students on active duty and spouses of active duty service member are not eligible for this program per VA regulations.

The VA will pay to Stevenson University the maximum amount established for private institutions (for 2012 -13 the amount is capped at $17,500 per year).  After this amount is paid, the balance of tuition and fees remaining will be divided so that Stevenson University will pay 50% and the VA will pay the remaining 50%. A student who is certified at 100% eligibility will be able to attend Stevenson University at no cost for tuition and fees for the length of their entitlement (generally a maximum of 36 months, depending on award from the VA). Additionally, students may qualify for a monthly BAH housing stipend. These funds are not sent directly to Stevenson from the VA; therefore room and board charges must be paid up front.

Veterans interested in this program should submit their application online through the VA. The VA will determine a veteran's eligibility and will mail a certificate of eligibility which will indicate the percentage of benefit (40-100%, as well as the length of entitlement). After confirmation of eligibility, veterans who choose to transfer their benefit to a dependent must complete an additional application through the Department of Defense for approval. Once approved, the dependent must apply to the VA for benefits. For details on transferring benefits, please visit <>.

Once the certificate of eligibility has been received, the student must contact the certifying official in the Registrar's Office for additional instructions.
